In the book I am looking fir, a teen girl moves to New York to live with
her aunt after her parents die. She has some sort of magic, I think she is
a witch. She finds out she has a soulmate and both of their ancestors have
gone through what they have. She has a special necklace. A guy is after
them and it leads to the climax on a bridge or ledge.
I read this in 2014, So I believe it was written in 2010s, maybe a bit
before. It also has a sequel.
Thanks to sallievern, I have found the books. "Spellbound" and
"Spellcaster" by Cara Lynn Shultz.

Sounds like "Spellbound" and "Spellcaster" by Cara Lynn Shultz
"Life hasn't been easy on sixteen-year-old Emma Conner, so a new start in
New York may be just the change she needs. But the posh Upper East Side
prep school she has to attend? Not so much. Friendly faces are few and far
between, except for one that she's irresistibly drawn to—Brendan Salinger,
the guy with the rock-star good looks and the richest kid in school, who
might just be her very own white knight.."

"... the story of the necklace (which Emma had been given by the brother
she lost) and the legend and ancient curse that they discover. I really
enjoyed their doomed love story and the race to break the curse to stay
alive. "
