Question: Boy must sell dog to man; dog makes its way back to Alaska to find boy circa 1970s or 80s

Home » Children's Books » #22061

Asked by lxcava on Tue 11, Jul 2017 10:24am :
I read a book in the 70s or 80s about a boy who had to give away or sell a
dog - possibly a husky - and the dog was trasnported from the boy's home in
Alaska, I think, to the west coast somewhere. The dog missed the boy, and
escaped, and made its way back to the boy. Along the way, it stopped at a
houseboat, swam across some channel, got attacked by another dog or wolf
but its studded collar saved the dog, and finally found the boys home, in
time for the boy's return from school, or something like that.

Thanks.

I wonder if that isn't "Kavik the Wolf Dog", by Walt Morey? There was a
movie as well, which I remember seeing as a very young child, in the
mid-eighties.

Just a guess, "Scrub Dog of Alaska" by Walt
Morey. https://www.amazon.com/Scrub-Alaska-Walter-Adventure-Library/dp/0936085134/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1499894443&sr=1-1

Yes, nailed it! Oddly, both of these look to be the same book,
different names. Thank you! Just ordered it for my 9-year-old. He'll
love it.
