I only partially remember a book from my Teen years that was about a future
where everyone lived in a city under a dome. The residents of the city all
had shaved heads, and each person had a chip implanted in the back of their
The book is from the vantage point of a young man, who is unhappy with his
assigned position in the society. He escapes the city, removes the implant
and regrows his hair out in the wilderness. He joins a comminity of
renegades who have rejected the life under the dome. For some reason I feel
his father is someone of importance in the community, and that the purpose
of the chip was to help maintain your assigned role.
This book will be pre 1990's, most likely pre 70's if I recall the style of
cover art. It was required reading in my English classes.
